A bit about me……..
I was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield and educated at Sherwood Hall, when it was in its infancy, in the 60s. My working life has been varied; I was a secretary for a number of years until I took a new direction and became a landlady for Mansfield Brewery and later for Hardys & Hanson Brewery.
I am now a Community Governor at the Manor School, a board member of Notts Greenwood Community Forest, the Chairman of Navi Saheli, the Notts Asian Women’s group and a non-voting member of several local associations, including Friends of Peafield Park, Peafield Community Association, Peafields Playscheme and the Manor Residents’ Association.
Since being elected as a Councillor last year I have enjoyed the benefit of the experience of my fellow Liberal Democrat Councillors, Peter Cooke, Phil Smith and Jill Usher, all of whom have been in office for at least one term prior to the current one. Phil and Jill are also Councillors for Leeming Ward and Peter is Councillor for Priory Ward
I am a member of the Planning Committee, Audit Committee, Health & Safety Committee and member of Select Commission 1, dealing with Housing & Environment. I am now Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at Mansfield District Council. I regularly attend the ‘Meet Your Local Councillor’ venues around the district…….perhaps I will see you there? Otherwise, look out for details of the next Ward Surgery, with me and my fellow Lib Dems, Councillors Phil Smith and Jill Usher.
When not working for the community I enjoy walks in the countryside with my husband and our dog, playing golf (not very well!) and spending time with my family. I also enjoy bird watching, looking for wild flowers and fungi. Any time not spent reading agenda, briefing notes, minutes or reports, I enjoy reading detective novels and autobiographies.
