The Sunday Service on the Robin Hood Line……
December 14th, 2008 by Veronica Goddard
…..was instated today and the train into Mansfield Woodhouse was greeted by Robin Hood, who sounded his horn as the train arrived. Newstead Brass Band played seasonal music and local Independent Forum Councillors Kate Allsop, Mick Barton, Norman Cook, Labour Group Councillor Derek Birkin and I were pleased to be there, regardless of the early hour….8.15 on Sunday is usually, for me, a time to awaken slowly and read the Sunday papers! Glad I went though. My sole complaint is that by the time I had walked along the access route to the platform I felt I could have been half-way to Shirebrook!!
Friday night was Panto night!…..
December 7th, 2008 by Veronica Goddard…….and what a terrific time we had. Sleeping Beauty was the story and the performances were great. It was Civic Night at the Panto and lots of Councillors and MDC Officers were there with their families to enjoy the fun. Lots of chocs, ice creams and shouts of ‘oh yes he is!’ and ‘behind you’ rang out throughout the auditorium and it was a great occasion to shed inhibitions and join in the excitement of the evening. At £11 per ticket it’s a bargain and if you get a chance to go, you will be sure to have a good time.
Driving from Station Street down towards the Market Place…..
December 4th, 2008 by Veronica Goddard….it was a wondrous sight. The Christmas lights were officially switched on by Mayor, Tony Egginton today. The reverend Scrivener led carol singing and after mince pies and mulled wine had been partaken of, the lights were lit up. At close range they appear somewhat insignificant, but driving towards them gives a perspective view, which is very pretty. We may not have the look of Bond Street, but the kind donations from local businesses and local Councillors has given our village a lovely display. The tree is a fine specimen, grown in a local plantation and being securely fastened, is (hopefully) vandal proof!
Should he not have a chance to voice his feelings….
December 4th, 2008 by Veronica Goddard……..on the death of his child?
The father of Baby P has had a gagging order issued to him by the High Court after an application by Haringey Council. The order bans the dad, 44, from even issuing a statement thanking POLICE for nailing his ex and her sadistic lover after the tot was tortured to death.
Last night a source close to the loving father told of his fears that he will never be allowed to see his other children if he defies Haringey Council’s wishes.
Democracy? I don’t think so.
What an awesome sight….

……….I wanted to share this with you. It’s just come to me from the Earth Observatory and shows a picture of Earth taken by Apollo 8. Isn’t it beautiful? This is just the kind of spouting that gives Tories a bad name..Blah, blah, blah
December 3rd, 2008 by Veronica Goddard…….and is so outdated a thought that proves they are out of touch with reality.Former Conservative Party leader, Iain Duncan Smith has claimed that,
“people who live on Council Estates are layabouts. He claimed that people did not want to work when they could get handouts.”
Talk about tarring everyone with the same brush! On the estate where I live the vast amount of previously Council-owned properties have been bought and are now under owner occupier residence. Admittedly there may be some locals who prefer to accept handouts, but such is true regardless of whether the house is privately owned or Council owned.
